The Meninas of Madrid return to Chueca thanks to designer José Perea and the tapestry company Pata de Gallo.

One of the most recognized events in the city of Madrid returns until December 15. 33 meninas de Velázquez take to the streets and once again capture the attention of visitors and onlookers, and show the best of our fashion, gastronomy, culture…
Our beloved neighborhood of Chueca wanted to get involved this year 2023 with two proposals that will surely leave you impressed. Two meninas that directly represent the commercial values of our neighborhood, talent and passion for tradition.
This year the creators of these two proposals are the young designer José Perea and Chueca’s best known upholstery shop, Pata de Gallo, both recognized as Diversa 2023 awards.
Let’s see what their creations hide…
First of all, in this edition, the designer José Perea presents us with an eye-catching menina. Wearing the colors of diversity, his artistic proposal revolves around a menina with a lot of volume, covered entirely by tulle ruffles that give it a very “Perea” personality. It is certainly a proposal that does not go unnoticed and that you can find inside the San Antón Market, the commercial epicenter of the Chueca neighborhood.
The second menina is brought to us by José and Miguel from one of the most veteran and best valued shops in the neighborhood. Pata de Gallo, located at 28 Pelayo street, brings us a creation inspired by the original sin, a fully dressed piece of craftsmanship with a defined face that aims to represent the history of fashion in the most humanized way possible. A groundbreaking concept that will culminate in one of the jewels of this year’s edition. You can find it in the Barceló market ready to impress everyone who comes by.
Undoubtedly, these are two proposals backed by Chueca Diversa that will give a lot to talk about in this 2023 edition. We are proud to see the evolution of their creators, their ability to overcome their limits and their commitment to the neighborhood, its commerce, its visibility and its diversity. At the same time, the location of the meninas demonstrates our commitment to continue to make visible the importance of our markets as places where commerce and culture coexist in the best way.
Once again this year, this initiative promoted by Acotex and Meninas Madrid Gallery, with the support of the Madrid City Council through its programs @todoestaenmadrid and @m_c_d_moda will contribute to boost commercial and hospitality activity in the city.
